- The liver is the largest internal organ in the body.
- The liver is located in the upper right portion of the abdominal cavity, beneath the diaphragm and above most of the stomach, intestines and pancreas. Its function is to secrete bile and functions in metabolism of protein and carbohydrate and fat. It synthesizes substances involved in the clotting of the blood, synthesizes vitamin A and detoxifies poisonous substances and breaks down worn-out erythrocytes.
