  • Lupus is also more common in women of African American, Hispanic, Asian, and Native American descent than in Caucasian women.
  • Discoid lupus is an illness characterized by a non-photosensitive, chronic and potentially scarring skin disease.
  • Women who don't have severe cardiac or renal disease -- and whose lupus is under good control -- usually carry their babies successfully to term.
  • Lupus is a very serious, chronic, autoimmune disorder characterized by periodic episodes of inflammation of and damage to the joints, tendons, other connective tissues, and organs, including the heart, lungs, blood vessels, brain, kidneys, and skin.
  • SLE can affect any part of the body, but most likely the heart, joints, skin, lungs, blood vessels, liver, kidneys and nervous system.
  • There are different kinds of lupus: discoid lupus aka Cutaneous lupus (affects the skin), systemic lupus (affects multiple systems like the skin, joints, blood, lungs, kidneys, heart, brain & nervous system) and drug-induced lupus that usually disappears after drug discontinuation.
  • The exact cause of Lupus is unknown but it is suspected that a person's genetic make-up as well as exposure to certain trigger factors could aid in Lupus development.
