My talk raised essential, unanswered questions, questions that should be satisfied before any mass screening is undertaken.
Mass screening is the presumptive identification of unrecognised disease by the use of tests to identify apparently well people who probably have a disease from those who probably do not.
Mass screening is costly and requires adequate financial resources; any deviation from the established protocol impairs the expected benefit and increases the cost.
Since the benefit increases rapidly with age and the risk decreases with age, a certain age at which the benefit and risk become identical should be found and under this age the mass screening is not justified to be performed.
The implementation of colorectal cancer mass screening is a high public health priority in France, as in most other industrialised countries.
