Use

The premaxilla does not contact the nasal, and the ascending process of the maxilla is marked by a distinctive trough that terminates posteriorly in a shallow fossa that curls onto the posterodorsal nasals and anterodorsal frontals.
Yet Galen 8 and most other anatomists after Hippocrates 9 have stated that the maxilla is not a single bone but after being boiled is loosened at the outermost extremity of the chin, and from this evidence it is clearly a composite.
The relationship of jugal and maxilla is variable, although they are almost always in contact.
The maxilla is a key bone in the midface that is closely associated with adjacent bones providing structural support between the cranial base and the occlusal plane.
Standards of care The surgical reduction and fixation of the maxilla is indicated in the majority of cases.
