• Melanoma is a cancer that begins in the melanocytes.
• Melanoma is a very serious form of skin cancer.
• However, if detected and treated in its earliest stages, melanoma is often curable.
• If not treated on time, it is likely to spread, and once it has spread to other parts of the body the chances for a cure are much less.
• A form of skin cancer that arises in melanocytes, the cells that produce pigment. Melanoma usually begins in a mole.
