Use

The period of time that menstrual bleeding lasts.
The cyclic shedding of the endometrium, consisting of blood, mucus and cellular debris.
From that time, perfection of rhythm or regularisation of menses is slowly attained before the age of 16-18.
The reason most doctors give you progestins or progesterone to induce a menses is to make sure you have not recently ovulated or become pregnant.
