Scope Note
general aim of metabolomics is to identify, measure and interpret the complex time-related concentration, activity and flux of endogenous metabolites in cells, tissues, and other biosamples such as blood, urine, and saliva; here metabolites include small molecules that are the products and intermediates of metabolism, as well as carbohydrates, peptides, and lipids.

- Metabolite Database Overview Project Proposal Contact Info Lori Querengesser Project Manager 202 Athabasca Hall University of Alberta Tel (780) 492-5009 Fax (780) 492-1071 The Human Metabolome Project Metabolomics is a newborn cousin to genomics and proteomics.
- One function of the National Centre for Plant and Microbial Metabolomics is to provide a focus of research activities to overcome this hurdle and allow post-genomic science to truly focus on fully integrative aspects of organism 'phenotype'.
- Just as genomics is the -omics face of DNA sequence analysis, metabolomics is the -omics face of biochemistry and an important piece in an -omics approach to understanding cell and system level biology.
- Environmental metabolomics Metabolomics is ideal for studying the impact of stressors such as pollution and climate change on environmental species, not least because no species-specific DNA sequence information is required.
- Metabolomics An Emerging Science Metabolomics is generally accepted as the study of the repertoire of non-proteinaceous, endogenously- synthesised small molecules present in an organism.
