chronic disease characterized by presence of numerous areas of demyelination in the central nervous system with symptoms such as weakness, incoordination, paresthesis, and speech disturbances; the etiology is unknown.

- Multiple sclerosis is not contagious nor infectious.
- Multiple sclerosis is a disease of the central (cerebrospinal) nervous system.
- Multiple sclerosis is a chronic neurological disorder that affects the central nervous system, ie, the brain and spinal cord.
- Some of the symptoms include loss of strength, numbness, vision impairments, tremors, and depression.
