- Being too heavy for one's height.
- Overweight is defined as a BMI of 25 or more, obesity is 30 or more, and severe obesity is 40 or more.
- Today, being overweight is more common than being underweight.
- Prevalence of overweight is especially higher among certain populations such as Hispanic, African American and Native Americans where some studies indicate prevalence of >85th percentile of 35-40%.
- Overweight is strongly linked with high blood pressure and diabetes and being obese is linked with higher levels of total blood cholesterol.
