What is diethyl phthalate? Diethyl phthalate is a colorless liquid that has a bitter, disagreeable taste.
Di-n-butyl phthalate is a manufactured chemical that is added to plastics, paint, glue, hair spray, and other household products.
Diethyl phthalate is used to manufacture celluloid; as a solvent for cellulose acetate in varnishes; as a fixative for perfumes; as a wetting agent; as a camphor substitute; as a diluent in polysulfide dental impression materials; and as a solvent for nitrocellulose and cellulose acetate.
As a non-plasticizer, di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate is used as a replacement for polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in dielectric fluids for electric capacitors.
Bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate is primarily used in the plastics industry as a plasticizer with such varied applications as wire insulation, food packaging and biomedical applications such as tubing and blood containers.
