Facts

  • Pleurisy is a type of chest pain you may have when the internal lining of your chest wall, called the pleura, is inflamed.
  • Pleurisy is swelling (inflammation) of the thin layers of tissue (pleura) covering the lungs and the chest wall.
  • Pleurisy is inflammation of the linings around the lungs (the pleura).
  • If the fluid content remains unchanged by the disease, the pleurisy is said to be dry.
  • When pleurisy is caused by a bacterial lung infection, it can be associated with a pus-filled pleural effusion.
