Prostatitis is an infection or an inflammation of the prostate gland.
Prostatitis is common and affects many men at some time.
The term prostatitis actually encompasses four disorders: Acute bacterial prostatitis (ABP), Chronic bacterial prostatitis (CBP), Nonbacterial prostatitis, and Prostatodynia.
Acute bacterial prostatitis is the least common of the four types but also the easiest to diagnose and treat effectively.
The antibiotics may help if your prostatitis is caused by bacteria, or it may help due to anti-inflammatory effects of antibiotics.
The term prostatitis is applied to a series of disorders, ranging from acute bacterial infection to chronic pain syndromes, in which the prostate gland is inflamed.
