  • Prostatitis is an infection or an inflammation of the prostate gland.
  • Prostatitis is common and affects many men at some time.
  • The term prostatitis actually encompasses four disorders: Acute bacterial prostatitis (ABP), Chronic bacterial prostatitis (CBP), Nonbacterial prostatitis, and Prostatodynia.
  • Acute bacterial prostatitis is the least common of the four types but also the easiest to diagnose and treat effectively.
  • The antibiotics may help if your prostatitis is caused by bacteria, or it may help due to anti-inflammatory effects of antibiotics.
  • The term prostatitis is applied to a series of disorders, ranging from acute bacterial infection to chronic pain syndromes, in which the prostate gland is inflamed.
