RNP is performance- based and not dependent on a specific piece of equipment.
The RNP is natural and euphonic.
All instrument procedures require some level of navigational performance, so one assumes the name RNAV/RNP is meant to somehow differentiate these approaches from other instrument approaches.
As far as we know the RNP is the longest lasting federally funded cooperative multi-university research project in the history of mathematics education.
