Use

Ringworm is a skin disease that is not caused by worms, but by fungus.
It causes itching and ring-shaped patches.
Ringworm is contagious and is easily spread from one person to another.
Ringworm is common because it is very contagious.
The fungi responsible are called "dermatophytes," meaning "plants that live on the skin" thus the more correct term for ringworm is "dermatophytosis".
