Facts
- A person infected with an STD is more likely to become infected with HIV, and a person infected with HIV and another STD is more likely to transmit HIV.
- An STD is a sexually transmitted disease.
- The best way to prevent any STD is to practice abstinence, or not having vaginal, oral, or anal sex.
- The problem of detecting cases of STD is also an issue in evaluating the extent of their complications, which often form the greatest burden of disease.
- Sexually transmitted diseases are infections most commonly spread through sexual intercourse or genital contact.
- STD's can be caused by esvirus, bacteria, parasites, fungus, etc
- If not treated, STD's could cause complication like pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and inflammation of the cervix (cervicitis) in women, inflammation of the urethra (urethritis) and inflammation of the prostate (prostatitis) in men, and fertility and reproductive system problems in both sexes.
- Sexually transmitted diseases can be both symptomatic and asymptomatic.
- The risk for spreading sexually transmitted diseases is dramatically reduced with the use of condoms.
