pathological process consisting of hardening or fibrosis of an anatomical structure, often a vessel or a nerve.

Facts
- A hardening within the nervous system, especially of the brain and spinal cord, resulting from degeneration of nervous elements such as the myelin sheath.
- A disorder characterized by hardening of tissue resulting from any several causes, including inflammation, the deposit of mineral salts, and infiltration of connective tissue fibers.
