Sulfinpyrazone is sometimes used to prevent or treat other medical problems that may occur if too much uric acid is present in the body.

Sulfinpyrazone is used to relieve pain and inflammation in gout and to prevent gout recurring.
Management: In patients maintained on warfarin, their PT and/or INR should be closely monitored if sulfinpyrazone is being added or withdrawn, and should be periodically reassessed during concurrent therapy.
Sulfinpyrazone is substantially more uricosuric than probenecid and is therefore given in an initially low dosage of 100-200mg daily increasing to 600mg daily over two to three weeks.
