Facts
- Taste bud is a sense organ found on the tongue's upper surface.
- Taste buds are sensory organs that make us experience tastes such as sweet, salty, sour, and bitter.
- Taste buds contain sensitive microscopic hairs called microvilli that send messages to the brain about how something tastes.
- There are 10,000 taste buds on average on a person's tongue and they get replaced every 2 weeks or so. However, an older person has around 5,000 working taste buds as taste buds don't get replaced as we age.
