Facts

  • Small bloodsucking bugs, very difficult to see being so little.
  • Some tick species transmit diseases to animals and people such as Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and tularemia.
  • Ticks are ectoparasites (external)that live by hematophagy on the blood of animals and humans.
  • Use of a hot match or cigarette to remove a tick is NOT recommended as this may cause the tick to burst.
  • Ticks are removed by using a small set of tweezers by grabbing the head and pulling slowly and steadily.
