Facts
- Wart represents a noncancerous skin growth caused by a virus.
- Wart is caused by the human papilloma virus.
- Infection by the virus is possible anywhere on the body and common especially on the palm of the hand.
- When the wart is young, the surface is rounded; as it gets rubbed it is cleft into projecting points.
- Contrary to well-established belief, the underside of a wart is smooth and round, and the entire wart is confined to the epidermis -- the outermost layer of the skin.
- If the wart is touched or scratched the virus can spread to another area of skin.
