Well, the problem is certainly not in spicy food but in the lying down. Didn’t your mother touch you to eat at the table or at the sitting position. Not that you will be coughing but you may as well choke.
This is because there are two openings in the mouth. One is for food- esophagus, which leads to the stomach and another one is trachea, which is the opening that air must pass through to get to the lungs. Trachea is usually closed when we are eating but if we are eating and talking or laughing, then the food may end up in one of the tubes that lead to the lungs and block them.
Most of the time, chocking occurs when the food is not chewed up properly.
