I am 8 weeks pregnant, I have had a bad cold for 5 days, with severe and excessive coughing episodes. Could extreme coughing harm my baby, one website said it could break the water bag, but most of the information I came across was pertaining to pregnancies that were farther along than I am.

More than likely this shouldn't be an issue. Call your doctor an ask if there is any over the counter medications they feel are safe to suppress your cough and it should help you feel better both about the pregnancy but also being sick.
