Hi. I'm 43 yrs.old & had laparoscopy done in November 2005, which entailed cleaning up endometreosis, along with peeling off complex cyst bigger than an egg off my left ovary. Doc did poor stitching & left me with an incisional hernia on top of the above. Cyst was analysed & supposingly not cancerous. Special blood work was done which supposedly indicate no cancer as well. I have about the same, to much worst pain in my whole tummy since the surgery. I had a laparoscopy for endometriosis about 10 yrs ago & it was so great...I never felt any pain afterwards that first one. I also had a polyp on my uterus, which was biopsied & claimed ok. I still am spotting between periods regardless. I've lost a baby & had to abort another due to a severe accident I had & my health not being able to carry that through. I never gave birth. I suffered multiple severe injuries in my accident, along with a stroke...I now am anemic, thyroid in overdrive & very low b/pressure (ie; 80/50, 90/60,etc), not considering heavy daily back/etc pains/stuff. I always had a heavy period from when I started @ 13 yrs.old, however, this became 9-11 days long period post my accident, & much more heavy & with big blood cloths & remained as such for the past 16 yrs or so. I saw another Dr. for a 2nd opinion & he says the November 2005 laparoscopy I had should have been a hysterectomy & he claimed that he would have put me on high dose of hormones to stop periods to start menopause...he won't touch what he calls the mess the Doc did in this surgery & says i'll keep having pains as such even when i later have a hysterectomy at some point. My mother is 66, in her 10th yr of breast cancer survivorship, with 2005/recent kidney tumor which they r monitoring, however, she never had hysterectomy...why is it that Docs suggest hysterectomy for young women nowadays, even in their early 30's/stuff? We didn't see that in the older days, nor did we see the hormone therapy they seem to rushed to put u on, yet, ladies in their 60's-80's who haven't had hormone therapy did just fine? What do I do from here? I want more comfort, less pain, & of course improve this whole situation. Please help a.s.a.p. I will be having the hernia surgery as soon as they book me for it. How about my tummy though? What do u suggest?
Thx much in advance.

Hello there! I find hysterectomy the worst solution ever, especially in the age when you are approaching menopause and when your hormones are already starting to fluctuate. Considering your doc said you may experience pain even after hysterectomy, I am not sure if this is the best option.

My mother had everything removed with hysterectomy because of some bloody cysts on her ovary that were threatening to burst and soon after started suffering from severe depression. She was 46 when she had it done.

However, if you are in a great pain and this surgery would help you some, and if it were your last resort, then maybe you should consider it.

Maybe you should look for a 3rd opinion, and then decide upon the offered options. Get as many information as you can, check for all pros and cons, and then based on all the info, make your decision.

I don't really know if this pertains at all but I had extremely heavy periods, ovarian cysts, and ectopic pregnancy. I will be 40 this month. My gynecologist performed an intrauterine ablatia 4 years ago and it absolutely was the greatest thing. They "laser out" the inside of your uterus and it totally stops periods (haven't had one since). It was a "same day" procedure, went to hospital in the morning and was home that afternoon. It really seemed to stop all of my problems without having to undergo a hysterectomy.
