my boyfriend and i are trying somthing new and want to attempt anal sex and im worried that i will go through an extreme amount of pain. And when we have intercourse, he doesnt know it, but im not getting anything out of it. what can i do?

OK.. as far as Anal.. sure it may very well hurt... but preparing is important as much as lubrication. Anal sex is not the type where you will want to be forced or have rough sex until you are 100% confortable with it and know how much you can take for sure.

Use a good condom safe lube (ejaculating into the anus can still drip down to the vaginal area, hence be a pregnancy risk) Lube both yourself and his penis. Then go nice and slow... communicate fully as far as how it feels and how far or hard he can push as well as at what angle. Also bearing down a bit can help ease the pain and relax the muscel a bit.. there is the outter muscel but then an inner one that he will need to get past.. so take your time.
You can get badly injured if he gets too rough, so be careful.

Now as far as your feelings during sexual intercourse. You really need to communicate to him about everything, if you can not talk about this then the future will not be so bright. If you are not confortable speaking about the sex you are having.. then you may want to think twice about where you are at in life.
When I was younger I had a similar issue... realxing. being 100% confortable with me and MY body was the key. Plus talking to him.. he was loving and appreciative that I shared with him.. he took his time and helpped me learn what felt good. There are endless positions and ways to do it.

Many women can not orgasm via vaginal penetration alone. You may need more direct clitoral stimulation either by his hand, yours or a toy like a vibrator. Also positions can vary until you find what position you need to be in where his body can rub you in the right spot.
There are also rings that he can whear on his penis that have protuding areas that will rub you right where you need it. Even one of the mainstream condom companies now have a cockring condom that vibrates. We are going to test drive that one soon for sure...LOL (I may have to do a review) Just look on the top shelf in the condom area.

Anyway communicate, relax and learn to feel your body inside and out. You may need more foreplay, more or less lubrication inside of you. Even if he is small (I am NOT saying he is) No matter what his size there are still ways to make it work.
