Fluoridation of water began in 1945 in US, and yes, it has been estimated that fluoridation of water contributes to general health, but is still not proven, although fluoridation of water exists more than 60 years.
To bring it easier to you, fluorine is halogen and it is most reactive element in the halogen family. It exists in nature and there it is attached to other elements (calcium, sodium, aluminum, sulfur ...). also sodium fluoridate was initially used to fluoridate water.
However, researches also did examination of naturally fluoridated water on teeth and estimated that it has the effect on discoloration of teeth and they also claimed it prevents cavity. Fluoride prevents cavities, but by combining with calcium in dental enamel to form fluoroapetite, which increases the resistance of teeth to acid demineralization. there are also some side effects, one of them is dental fluorosis.
it is very interesting how researches cannot prove they were wrong from the start, just by saying that fluoride is one of the most toxic elements in earth crust. Fluoridation is a social phenomena... we are practically killing ourselves by entering poison into our bodies...slowly, but surely. One more thing, also, vast amounts of fluoride were required to build the atom bomb!!!
Think about that!
