Posted: 11/10/06 - 15:34 Post subject: gas feeling under left rib, fullness, and moveable lump |
|
|
Since the birth of my son two years ago, I have had very few digestive problems which was a shock since prior to childbirth I was chronically constipated. I had major trouble with hemmorhoids while pregnant and since then, minor discomfort while starting a bowel movement, fine once it starts exiting Isn't it fun to talk about bowel movements? Anyway...
The past few months I noticed sometimes my abdomen had a bump in it, rather large like a softball that when I pressed it, it would sink back somewhere into my abdomen. No pain, nothing. After pregnancy and a fallen bladder, nothing shocks me so i assumed all was normal (that and since I sufffered sever post-partum depression my doctor poo-poos anything I suggest is malfunctioning so i just don't bother).
Well, 5 days ago I woke up with an aching pain in my left abdomen, kind of under my left rib but it also feels like gas (which I can pass, with some difficulty) but I was also nauseous, and my shoulder joints ached. Kind of like flu without any other flu symptoms. It absolutely hurt to cough or laugh, my whole muscles in the abdomen seemed pulled. After three days my muscles are fine but the fullness under the left rib remains. Gaslike feeling starts immediately after eating and continues for hours.
Now, the lump comes and goes and kind of feels like an organ floating all over the place within a set path but it *feels* like between softball and harball sized. I have a strong abdominal pulse on the left side where the discomfort lies.
What could this all mean? Is it possibly a build up in my intestines/colon of fecal matter? This happened a day after I caught my son falling off a chair where I had to jumpin and lean to the left and it did hurt and pull near my left side/ribs...
Hernia? I am so confused. I made an appointment to be checked out by my doctor (aka be told I am simply worrying over nothing) but this is not normal for me (aside from constipation etc) so ?? I just want to know what to go into the appointment knowing...the more info I have the more I will be able to convince her I am not a lunatic and just because I had post-partum depression doesn't mean EVERYTHHING is in my head. Sheesh Get over it already it was two years ago lol
Thanks in advance for any ideas/advice.
I think I have always had a strong abdominal pulse though, it was only being on the left side that raised suspicion this time, however, I know for a fact I had felt it there many times before. |

That there is a burning, sort of cold searing feeling from it and producing a long series of "bubbles" - even something as simple as one cracker is causing bellyfulls of gas. Yogourt has always calmed my stomach before and now its like I ate a gallon when I eat 1/4 cup - burning, lumpy feeling and gassy.
Any ideas? |

| I am having similar problems as you have described. Although I dont have a similar history. I am a 21 year old female and about 2 months ago I started getting gas on a daily basis as well as stomach distention. I dont ever have any pain. After a while I also discovered that my abdomen and chest had a constant visible pulse. Having such atypical symptoms is frustrating because all i keep finding online leads me to an abdominal aortic aneurysm and I doubt that is my problem (being so young and not overweight) although you never know. I am having an upper GI series and gallbladder scan done this week. Just thought I would give u some comfort by letting you know that you arent the only with these weird problems. Have you heard anything else about your condition from the doctor? Goodluck |

I was told that I was low on potassium, I have a spasm in my rib cage that comes and goes, sometimes everyday spontaneously, sometimes not for 3 days. unpredictable! 36yrs old.
It feels like a thumb is pushing out through my ribs right below my heart, and I feel like gas/air movement. It does not hurt or is painful, but it is strange, and Im not sure what to think. It feels like maybe blood is clotted or arterys clogged. I have high cholesterol, so im not sure if thats the cause.
Any help would be appreciated.

| hey i am 21 and i too have this lump you speak about its actually a sausage shaped lump in my case starts at the bottom of my stomach and if i sticke my tummy in it rises up and then gets lost somewhere but when i exhale it falls back down. i have had this persistant bump ill call it, for about 9 months now and it is driving me crazy i used to have a very flat stomach now its bloated all the time and this lump they diagnosed me with ibs and told me it was poop. mind u it does get smaller sometimes after a bowel movement so it probably is but it never goes away maybe because i never finish . just felt like commentinga nd saying you are not alone i have the same thing u described. everyone thinks i am crazy and i have nothing. i cants get a proper diagnosis. so yea i am starting to take the peppermint capsules now that was mentioned in the previous post. its good for intestinal spasms. also fiber water. no exercise yet i am really lazy, but yea the bump is there everyday since i discovered it in late february. good luck hope we can figure this out and hopefully fix our problem even if my ibs never goes away. i don't experience pain just lower tummy is bloated amd that lump. wish you the best.. |

Hi,
I was reading your old post and it's just like me!
Did you ever get a diagnosis? Did your symptoms go away? I've been about 2 weeks with the same symptoms and have been diagnosed with gastritis, but not feeling better after taking prevacid. Went for an abdominal ultrasound and am now waiting for results. I look like I'm 3 months pregnat (which I'm not!) because of the bloating.
Please post if you are better...I'd love to know if this will go away! |

i was constipated for a couple of days [horrible] and experienced the same aching sensation as you described. it's most likely that you are constipated. i also lost some weight in the two days and it felt like i was constantly holding my breath, which felt really weird; did this happen to you? i found that sitting still for some time and getting distracted, such as in a movie or a book, made the pain disappear, but reappear some time after i started thinking about it, which suggests that it's partly psychological.
i hope that you got some help for it and that it only turned out to be something simple =]
