Depending on cycle length, it is possible to get pregnant from unprotected sex the week after your period

That is not completely true. The time after the egg has died after ovulation and before you get your period you cannot get pregnant as there is no egg available to fertilize. It is actually only a few days a month that you can get pregnant, unprotected sex up to seven days before you ovulate could result in a pregnancy, other times it is very unlikely.
