I am pregnant for over the three months. Last week I have noticed that I have problem with my gum tissue. Swelling and bleeding was usual. So I went to my dentist. He told me that I am dealing with gingivitis in pregnancy. He told me that it is related to hormonal changes. Do you have any advices?
Your dentist is right. Due to hormonal changes (increased level of progesterone) the gingivitis-causing bacteria can grow and gum tissue is most sensitive on it. It is crucial to take good dental care when you are pregnant. Your mouth is a perfect incubator to all kinds of bacteria. You must wash your teeth at least two times a day. Also you should use an antimicrobial mouth rinse and of course, flossing.
