Hello! My grandmother has a cataract on his left eye. Her doctor recommends surgery since her vision becomes seriously impaired. Her cataract progressed rapidly in the last year and she wasn’t able to perform all her activities as she used to. Her tight eye has already been operated few years ago. Could this increase the risk of possible complications?

Hello! Complications during and after the cataract surgery are rare and if they occur most of them are treated successfully. The risk is of course greater if a patient has any other eye disease or other serious medical problems. Sometimes a cataract surgery fails to improve vision due underlying eye damage such as glaucoma or macular degeneration. Your grandmother’s eye doctor has to arrange a meeting with the eye surgeon who will examine her and decide on surgery.
