Hello! You didn’t say much about whether the pain was sudden and has been going on for several hours, or days or has become chronic, so I will tell you a bit about the stomach pains in general.
Sometimes, stomach pain starts because of overeating in general or overeating with a certain food type. At other times, a person/child may have caught a stomach virus and bacteria. If this is the case, the abdominal pain persists for a few days but is often followed by diarrhea and nausea and even vomiting but goes away on its own.
Pain location is also important because it could indicate from which organ the pain\s coming from.
The pain in the upper left abdomen is not so usual and it would indicate a problem with colon, spleen, pancreas or stomach. If the pain is located in the lower left abdomen, it could suggest lower colon.
Now, if the pain has been persistent, or recurrent, or followed by symptoms like breath, dizziness, bleeding, vomiting or a high fever, you should see a pediatrician asap. In case of more severe symptoms like sudden and sharp pains, vomiting blood, radiating pain to the chest, shoulder and neck, blood in stool and swollen abdomen, you should call emergency room. |
