heart murmur

Hi, I have son who is 25 years old and he had regular medical control in his school last week. When he came back from school he told me that doctor hears some heart murmur while he was auscultating his heart and lungs. Also he told him to visit cardiologist and to make ultra sound of his heart. I am very upset because of this so please tell me what theses murmurs mean?

Hi, there is no reason for you to panic, in adolescents ages it is very common thing that doctors discover some heart murmur. In the most cases it is just physiological murmur without organic disorder. It is caused by some cardiac valves which are still in the phase of formation and may cause such sound. However it would be good that your son makes ultra sound of his heart just to be absolutely sure that everything is fine.
