Hi, my father is 57 years old and he is candidate for heart transplantation. He suffered from chronic heart failure since he gets Coxsackie's virus more than 8 years ago. I know how serious this operation is so I would like to know what success rate for heart transplantation is. Thank you.

Hi, heart transplantation is one of the hardest surgical procedures today. Many things have to be done to make this procedure successful. About 70 % of people who had heart transplantation survived first five years after operation. Also it depends if donor is someone from the family of the patient or some other whose brain was dead and his heart is transplanted. After transplantation patient have to be on immunosuppressive therapy as well.
