A surgery to remove hemorrhoids is called hemorrhoidectomy and could be performed with helps of general or spinal anesthesia and could be done with a knife, cautery pencil or laser. He surgery is often done in a day and the recovery takes about 2 or 3 weeks.
It should last 6 to 12 hours to provide pain relief after surgery. As soon as your anesthesia wears off and after you urinate, you are able to leave the hospital. Inability to urinate (urinary retention) sometimes occurs because of swelling (edema) in the tissues or a spasm of the pelvic muscles.
After the surgery, you will be given the medications to relieve the pain, also there could be some bleeding occuring, usually with the first bowel movement after the surgey, but you should know that straining during bowel movements can cause hemorrhoids to recur.
Lasers are often advertised as being a less painful, faster-healing method of removing hemorrhoids. Lasers are more expensive than traditional techniques. The procedure takes longer, and it may cause deep tissue injury.
According to what kind of hemorrhoids your Mom has, you will be suggested what kind of surgery she will need to have.
