I have to get a hemmorrhoidectomy done on Tuesday. I am SO scared about this. I have heard nothing but how painfull it is. I have a small external one and a few lil ones inside..well im not sure if the ones inside are small or not. Im just really freaking out. How much pain is there and when does it go away?

I think it varies for everyone. The official answer is 2-6 weeks, I think. However, people are different and the surgeries are different for each person.

As my Mom told me in first grade when I didn't want to go back, "Other people do it, so can you." Wink

Plan on six weeks, and if it takes less time that's a bonus. Some people on this discussion board felt good enough to go to work after a long weekend. My wife is at almost six weeks and she's not sure whether she can go to church tomorrow or not.

Afterward, here are some tips:

1. The sitz bath they give you at the hospital to bring home is your friend.

2. Follow your doctors orders regarding regular bowel movements. You should get back to your regular (no pun intended) habits as soon as possible (regarding bowel movements) after surgery. Within a week. In other words, if you are used to going once a day really good, something is wrong if you are going four times a day and it's rabbit turds. You gotta get everything moving regularly no matter whether it hurts to go. My wife suffered a bowel impaction which set back her recovery by a good two weeks. Don't do that!

3. Your new mantra...sitz bath and medication, sitz bath and medication...

4. Put a couch in front of a TV. You might want to join NetFlix and Blockbuster at the same time.

5. As soon as you are able, try getting up and moving around to get everything moving inside.

You'll do fine.
