Your friend has a long road ahead of him but it is important that he realized that he needs help. Checking him self into a rehab is probably the smartest thing he has done in his life. Be there for him, when ever he needs you. Heroin withdrawal symptoms are some of the hardest an addict can experience. The individual who has become dependent on heroin will experience heroin withdrawal with an abrupt discontinuation of use. This can occur even with a decrease in their daily amount of heroin taken. Heroin withdrawal symptoms begin six to eight hours after the last dose is administrated. The symptoms of heroin withdrawal produced are similar to a bad case of the flu and they are dilated pupils, watery eyes, chills, tremors, panic, anxiety, insomnia, stomach cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, shaking and many others. It is good that your friend has asked for help but we all need to understand that medical supervision and assistance is not essential for successful withdrawal. But your friend made the most important step- realizing that he needs help. I wish him all the best.
