Posted: 01/15/07 - 18:03 Post subject: how did I get high cholesterol? |
|
|
I am a 31 year old woman in good health. I don't drink, I don't smoke, I exercise regularly using a program that combines weights and aerobics. I am within my "ideal weight range." I have a busy, stressful job, so my eating habits are not perfect, but they are pretty decent. I have spent a lot of time researching diet and nutrition so I know what I am supposed to eat and what I'm not, and I think I am good most of the time.
However, I just had my yearly physical, and I was advised that my cholesterol is a problem. My overall cholesterol is 188, but my LDL is 122. From what I read this is higher than "optimal." My doctor is sending me information about a low cholesterol diet.
From what I read, women who are not menopausal are less likely than men to have problems with cholesterol. I just don't get it. Is this really a lifestyle issue (I think my habits are better than most!), or could there be something else wrong with me that is causing this?
I do have a history of hypothyroidism, but for the past 6 years my thyroid levels have been normal (including on my most recent blood test taken at the same time as the cholesterol test.) |

Hi, sometimes high cholestoral is just heridatory, just in the family.
I am in Australia, we can buy marjarine (spreads) that lower the cholestoral, as they have plant extracts in them, seems to work quite well.
read up about macadamia nuts also, despite having a high fat content (the good fat tho) seem to lower cholestoral, so does lecithen products |
