Hi, I have been taking hydrocodone as a therapy for my lower back pain for some time now. It really helps me with the pain. The problem is that I think that I have become addicted to the drug. I have noticed that I can not make it through the day if I don't take the right dosage. I do not want to be addicted, but I have heard that withdrawal symptoms are serious and can last up to a month. Is this true?

Hi, it is a good thing that you have admitted to your self that you have an addiction problem. Many people in your situation are not as brave. The symptoms of a withdrawal can vary from anxiety, hot and cold flashes, loss of appetite, and in the cases of severe addictions, to dehydration and vomiting. You should not go through this alone. The best thing to do is to talk to the doctor who will determine the right therapy for you to break the habit. The withdrawal period is an individual thing, but it does not last one month. In worst cases the withdrawal symptoms are gone after seven to ten days. I am sure that it will take you less time to go back to your normal drug-free life.
