I was on birth control pills a few years ago and frequently had unprotected sex with my boyfriend for about 2 years. None of the incidents ever resulted in pregnancy. I went off the pill because I left my boyfriend and the pill began giving me bad headaches, since I figured sex wasn't in my near future, I decided there was no reason for me to go through the trouble at the time. I just entered another serious relationship a few months ago and decided that its time I got back on some form of birth control. I got my prescription for the pill a few days ago, but I'm going to wait until the first day of my period to begin taking them.
Now, a few years wiser, I'm wondering exactly how safe it is to have unprotected sex while on the pill? It wouldn't be such a problem, but I absolutely HATE sex with condoms, and get next to no pleasure at all out of it.
Also, as far as I understand it, if you begin taking the pill on the first day of your period, you're protected immediately. Is this true? |
