I have been wondering the same thing. My doctor increased my meds and I have gained 10 pounds in three months. I would like to find more info on this.

I want an answer also, I have been on this drug for 3 1/2 years now.
I was first taking 12.5 MG and gained 10 pounds over three years. Resently my doctor increased my dose to 25 MG in August 2006 and I have gained 13 pounds in 4 months. I am switching to a beta blocker or something. HELP

Since I started taking the HCTZ a year ago I have gained over 20 pounds. My doctor doesn't think that is true I asked her to pull my records from a year ago to compare, and the doctor was suprised, but did nothing to explain why the weight gain> I don't know what to do or who else to talk to about the weight gain. :shocked

Check out the book "Protein Power" In that book the authors talk about certain diuretics causing weight gain. I also read an article from a pharmacology resource which stated that Hydrochlor. can affect sugar metabolism and cause hyperglycemia! My own experience being on Hydro. has confirmed that. Even though I exercise and maintain a healthy lifestyle, I gain bodyfat very easily and find it virtually impossible to reduce it significantly. It's very frustrating, because we're always told to lose weight to have normal blood pressure, YET the pills we're prescribed, contribute to weight gain and consequently, higher blood pressure!
It sucks!

I cannot lose weight despite rigorous exercise and healthy eating. I have been trying this for months and months and I have been unable to lose. My weight fluctuates up two lbs., down two lbs. I take the med for blood pressure, but it has also made my blood sugars increase. My doctor has no explanation. Very frustrated and tempted to discontinue all my meds.

I have maintained a healthy weight after I had my daughter. I was diagnosed with HBP, so my phys prescribed Benicar HCT. Every since I started taking them about a year ago, I have gained 15lbs. I have tried to lose the weight but have been unsuccessful. I am also tempted to give these meds up...or talk with my phys about Benicar without the HCT.
