My friend told me a woman may not have a hymen for a variety of different reasons. First and foremost, she may have been born without a hymen. That is known as perfectly normal and not uncommon. I was thinking that hymen protect our vagina and internal genital organs from infection. How come it is possible to be without it before birth, and how we don’t catch some infection when that happens?

Beside cases where girls have been born without hymen, there are some other cases which lead to its lost. For example engaging in strenuous activities or sports can tear and stretch the hymen. This might be done until it no longer blocks vaginal opening. The use of tampons can also stretch the hymen enough to make it seem that the woman doesn’t have it at all. An accident or injury to the genital area can rupture hymen and thereby make it nonexistent. Finally, sexual intercourse can tear or stretch the opening in the hymen, which is the most common. Someone says hymen is there for a reason, which is protects young girl’s vagina from different things, such as infection. The truth is maybe it can close that opening a little bit, but still that is not completely protected and closed even with hymen. There is little whole for menstrual bleeding. The fact is that infection woman catch during sexual intercourse, so without having sex, she is more protected.
