For a long time, it was believed that an intact hymen was evidence of a girl's virginity and in some backward countries; the absence of blood after first intercourse still casts questions on a bride's virginity. This worries me a lot because no one explained them that some girls who are still virgins have no hymen at all. Girls who do have a hymen can "break their cherry" in a number of differ rent ways, non-sexual ways, sometimes without even knowing it. I‘ve been in Egypt last year and I found out that lot of them to protect themselves from violence and even death, some engaged women in these places arrange for hymenorraphy, which is surgery to repair the hymen. I don’t know…but I found this really disturbing in 21 century. I think that hymenorraphy is making more “bads” than “goods” to a woman.

Unfortunately, those who seek hymenorraphy believe that the procedure is necessary for their social status, happiness, and even preservation of life. I read in some journal that in the past ten years in Egypt, the hymen repair surgery has reduced 80 % of the murders committed when a bride was found not to be a virgin on the wedding night. A typical hymen repair surgery, hymenorraphy, involves suturing the remnants of the ruptured hymen together along with a gelatin capsule containing a blood-like substance and the husband will be convinced of the bride's virginity when the capsule bursts during intercourse. This is ridicules if you ask me!!! And the costs of this fake virginity? Not cheap at all. In Egypt, women are paying US $100-600 for hymenorraphy and in Turkey a price for hymenorraphy is estimated to be between $140- $1500.
