is latex allergy possible

Hi, I have read interesting article in newspapers yesterday about allergy on latex. I am using latex gloves very frequently when I work in my house, in the garden around my car. I have noticed red irritation on my hands several times but I thought it was some light skin injury which I get while I was working. I would like to know is latex allergy possible?

The first one is contact dermatitis with swelling and redness which would pass couple of days after contact and the other is potentially life threaten because he cause urticaria, nausea and anaphylaxis.
