itching, dark brown discharge, change in period flow w/ disc

About 3 months ago, I began having problems with itching. I also noticed a brown discharge in my period with a drastic reduction in flow. There is still a flow but a change to lighter one. I have been to the doctor twice who thought it was a yeast infection. However, even with taking fluconazole 150mg (for yeast infection) - and two on the second visit....the itching is still there. It's usually worse in the evening or the morning. Mu vulva usually swells with the scratching/wiping with cloth but goes down if left alone. I havent had sex since last September---so I am inclined to assume its not sti.....but as long as this has been going on, now I dont know what to think. I have no previous history of a high number of yeast infections or recurring ones. any suggestions?

I notice this post is a few months old, but I wondered if you ever figured out what the problem was....I am having the same symptoms and hope to find an answer. Sad
