jaw popping

I’ve been to dentist today to fill my root canal and he noticed that I couldn't open my jaw very far without popping it really bad. I think that has something to do with leaning back in the dentist chair. He asked me the last time I noticed the jaw pop problems and I told him that it was nothing I would normally notice. Is my jaw is totally screwed?

Do you also grind your teeth at all when sleeping? My ex-boyfriend did that. He used to grind my teeth pretty bad in my sleep his jaw used to slightly pop out while awake when moving it in some positions. I think that is some condition called TMJ.
