My husband has just been diagnosed with Stage 3 stomach cancer. He already underwent a gastrectomy and several lymph nodes were removed. How are other patients with this condition treated? Any new drugs?

Stomach cancer is the second most common cause of cancer worldwide. Staging of gastric cancer, which is important in determining therapy and prognosis, depends on the depth of invasion into the gastric wall, as well as other organ involvement. Stage 3 disease has two subgroups A and B. Which one is your husband? Patients with subgroup A have disease that either penetrates through the stomach wall to involve adjacent organs or a tumor that remains confined to the stomach wall with involvement of nearby lymph nodes. Stage 3, subgroup B, includes a tumor that penetrates through the wall and involves lymph nodes or one that remains confined to the wall but involves nodes farther away from the stomach. The only potential cure, as far as I know, includes surgical removal of the stomach with removal of nearby lymph nodes. The various combinations typically fluorouracil, doxorubicin, etoposide or cisplatin, lead to some clinical improvements in patients.

Hi,
my brother has gastrointestinal cancer (stomach cancer) he was diagonised in Mar 2007 and operated on 28th April 2007 by removal of his entire stomach. He was suffering from acute stomach pain and vomitting since early Jan 2007. After the surgery he is not too good, he is presently in the hospital on IV drips since he is no able to consume anything by mouth, it seems his intestine passages have narrowed and hence have difficulty in passage/ digestion of any kind of food. he has already completed 3 cycles of chemotheraphy. Has become very weak and pale. Can someone tell me will he be ok. The only other option doctors say is to insert a external food pipe to the side where he had a stomach and insert food directly into his intestines so that he has some nutrition and strength.
Please help. He is only 39 yrs, his wife is 37 and was operated for brain tumor last september, and they have a daughter who will be 7 yrs soon.
Please someone reply.
