just got my tonsils out

To whomever posted on 4/17/08 at 8:17... I just got my tonsils and my adenoids out yesterday, and it's really not too bad, especially if you go in expecting the worst. They put the IV in, pumped in some painkillers through there, then they told me the anesthesia was going to start, and the next thing I remember was waking up in the recovery room, and I felt fine. My throat didn't even hurt at that point. I went home shortly thereafter, and it's really not as bad as everyone says. At least, I don't think it is.

Yeah, your throat is going to hurt that night and the next day, and probably for a while (I haven't gotten that far yet, since this is just the first day after the surgery). You won't be able to eat real food for a while. Well, actually, I can eat mashed potatoes if I let them cool down to room temperature, so maybe I'm just lucky. But getting them out is better than suffering through getting infections for the rest of your life. I'm covered by Aetna health insurance and my out-of-pocket cost is going to be $1,500. Should be fun paying that off for the next few months to a year. Oh well, my health is worth it. So yeah, just go get it done if your doctor says you should, and I think you'll be much better off.

RE:I'am just tired of my tonsils! I just got my tonsils out yesterday May the 13th. I really expected the worse but to tell you the truth the sore throat I've had the last 18 months or more was about the same amount of pain. I also had large holes in the back of my throat bad breath and constanly got food stuck in the openings. I am taking liquid Hydrocodone for the pain my doctor also gave me "promethazine Gel" it's rubbed on the inside of your wrist and it keeps you from being sick to your stomach. I've been drinking mostly water and eating jello and hope to go back to work within a week. My co-pay for the Dr. and the outpatient surgery fee was $140.00 and I'm sure there will be a charge from the anethistic team but I doubt the whole thing will cost me more than $500.00. I've been able to talk and I'm forcing myself to take it easy but would love to be shopping right now since I'm not a work. I'm only about 24 hours out but I'm very happy it's not as bad as I thought. BTW I'm 33 years old.

Hi I had my tonsils out 5days ago and i'm in the worst pain now. first and second day were fine (think still had anesthetic in me) but now its horrible! Its that dirtty smell constantly lingering in the back of my moutht that make all food seem repulsive accept for chips! Thought id loose some weight from this but swear ive put on from craving only bland junk food! loving the time off work though its been nice to wake up having nothing to do but get better. I am getting cabin fever a bit as i'm missing being around people but day time telly definately helps! Why are the mornings and mid afternoons sooo bad? i become almost alright again by 7pm. It thats 1pm thing where it feels like someone has stuck their fingers all the way down my earholes and are stabbing my throat with their nails. I have to stuff myself up with painkillers, puton jeremy kylie and just lie down in a trance for 4hours till it passes. In the mornings that white crust on the back of my throat gets real thick as it dries in my sleep and i can feel it hitting that dingledangle thing at the back of my throat when i breathe in. Part of me really regrets getting this done and i'm hoping itll ease up in the next fews days. Like really bad ulcers that seem so bad you could cut your your mouth out and one day they just go.

Well i had my tonsils out 5 days ago aswell. and its horrible, the first 2 days where fine but that 3rd day hit me hard. i just laid there taking pain killers. so far i have lost 4kgs(8.8lb). its sucks to drink and especially eat. I have had custard but that causes to much mucas so i am not having that anymore. Iccy poles are the best thing sometimes even better than pain killers.
i can now feel the scabs on the back of my throat and cant wait for them to fall off. i just hope i start getting better everyday now.
my out of pocket exepense for this was $3200 not cheap in any way... but im hoping that in the long run i will be better cause i was constantly tired, smelly breathe and just was destroying my life.
