Hi, father was suffering from chronic renal failure for several years. Although he was taking medication his condition became worse and worse. When he visited his doctor last time he told him to think about kidney transplantation. I would like to know if it would help him and how long it may last.
Hi, kidney transplantation is complex procedure and it is always last option when all other treatments failed. Prognosis for transplanted kidney is not so bad at all but it depends who is donor. If donor is someone from your family, with same genetic material, such transplantation may last up to 20 years. If kidney is taken from cadaver these transplants last up to 8 years.
