knee pain and a burning sensation in the knee

Hi, my knee has been aching for a few days now when I put pressure on it. The pain started to go away yesterday but today there is a burning sensation in my knee and the pain is constant instead of an ache only when I apply pressure to it. What could be causing this and is it serious enough to see a doctor or will it go away on its own?
