I wonder if anyone has had these symptoms? I have the feeling of a constant knot in my chest, which is worse when i'm home alone at night, it seems to stem from an incident when i was on my own and got a very sore sternum, i saw a doc and that is all resolved (there is nothing wrong with me!) but I cant shake this tense feeling, I'm seeing a counsellor but have only seen her once so far, i also have worries as i am losing my job, do you think these feelings will resolve over time? and will the counsellor help? has anyone tried hypnotherapy?

Hi Whistle,

A tight chest is a symptom of anxiety; however, that is not to say that it definitely is. My suggestion would be is to see a doctor and let him know that you are feeling quite tense and are worried about the knot in your chest. Let him or her know that you are also seeing a counselor too. If it is anxiety, he may prescribe you something to help ease the symptoms. Research shows that therapy is effective in reducing stress and feelings of anxiety. I would give your counselor a few more times and see how it goes for you. Its hard to tell just after one session.

Wishing you all the best,
Cassie
