Hi all,
I have a cyst on my labia and my doctor confirmed this and said I dont need any anti-biotics as its not inflamed. Nor does it have a head. My mum said she has had one once too but just left it and it took 2 years! to go away. I dont mind if it takes that long to go away as long as it doesnt do any harm.
Has anyone else experienced a cyst taking so long to go away? Or just going away by itself? As a lot of you talk about havin sitz baths but I already have similar baths as I have experienced Bartholins Abscess!

i have one of these for the first time, and i'm 51. my regular gyn is out of town, so i tried going to a local STD clinic and it was full for the day. i've had this itchy-hurty bump for about a week on my left labia minora and was getting concerned. Embarassed i have no sex partners currently so was mystified and a little worried about what it could be!

one poster wrote about sugar consumption--another about masturbation. both of these really rang true for me--my sugar intake had recently gone way up when i discovered how good sweetened condensed milk tastes in iced coffee--and i think the other variable was a factor as well.

i am currently using aloe vera gel several times a day, and tea tree oil less frequently as it burns a little. i try to use the gel every time i use the bathroom, and the tea tree oil at night before bed.

my stress level about this has gone way down since finding this thread--so thanks to everyone for posting.

I hve the same problem with sores (zits) on my labia area. My doctor suggested drinking lots of water and using a hypoallergic facial wash. I use Neutogena gentle face wash on the area. She also urged that each bump should be checked.

She stated that sometimes calcium build up deep under the skin can cause irritation and sores. It will resemble a zit like bump. The more it is sqeezed the more likely pus and bacteria will collect causing an infection. Avoid squeezing. In cases where an infection formed, I took antibiotics for a few days. It went away.

Since using the hypoallergentic face soap I have had no bumps.

i'm glad i'm not the only one with this. i recently started getting these when my gp put me on a 6 month course of antibiotics for my skin. it gave me a yeast infection and these! they are most unpleasant! is anyone else experiencing them with thrush/yeast infection or is anyone else getting them that is on a progesterone implant or contraceptive? i recently had an implant fitted in my arm as well. which i think may have something to do with it as well. Sad

I've had a bump a little bit smaller than a pea for 4 years.... it's a bit sensitive to touch, but other than that it doesn't bother me.. it seems to get more sensitive right before my period. It never breaks, leaks, nothing. Anyone have a clue what I'm talking about?

Can I just say to the lady 'dandelions in the garden' who posted on 11/14/07 thank you so much, everything you are experiencing I am too! I also too thought I had caught an STD but ruled that out after doing some extensive homework on the internet and taking some tests,
which is another point I would like to make, getting info on these cysts was so hard, this is the first website I could find anything substantial on and I have been looking for months! (I tried a different search engine this time). So thank you girls for sharing your stories, you have no idea how helpful this has all been for me!

Ladies, this is a long post, but PLEASE take the time to read it all, because after meticulously reading all of these posts, I am positive that my story can possibly help us all..or at least most of us. If you are like me and have suffered with this...then you are ready for solutions like I am. So here goes:

Up all night, again, with this condition I decided to take the time to do some research on my own. The result was this great and wonderful website! So many of you have the exact same symptoms that I have...which have also been largely ignored by gynecologists and doctors - dismissed as just regular cysts, hormonal imbalances, or herpes. This is NOT herpes. It doesn't even look like herpes. I believe that this is Hidradenitis Suppurativa, also known as HS. (My dermatologist suggested that I might have this one day when I went in for acne and was describing my other condiditions to her). She really did not examine me for it nor did she officially diagnose it because Iwas not there for that. She was, however, the first person to ever give me a specific name. Every other derm or doctor had always dismissed these recurring cysts as just routine hormonally-induced conditions. She just wrote the name down for me, and I went on my way. I am a busy working mother of two kids under five so time prevented me from looking further into HS, at first. Until last night.

I, too have suffered from this over a 20-25 year timespan. I have had recurring pus-filled bumps of varying sizes that recurr in the same exact spots near my menstrual period. Over the years thy have mostly come underneath/between my breasts, on my inner thighs, or in my groin area.

After I had my second child they began to form on my labia minora near the clitoris...in the same exact spot every time. They have increased in size and frequency, and they do not go away fully in between. I can feel them there under the skin at all times. When I am stressed they begin to itch and get irritated. When I am premenstrual they bocome engorged. Some months are better than others, because some months they only come as small pea-sized lumps which erupt on their own and ooze pus and blood.

Other months are hell. Like this one. The boil is the size of a grape and extremely tender to the touch. I cannot walk and wiping is extremely painful. It is debiliatating, and I am off work.

The very first time this happened to me to this extent was Spring of 2007 (previously the bumps never got that bad, but would recur every month). The first one lasted about a week and finally came to a head and burst on its own. There was a breif period ot time where I knew it was there but it did not flare up. Then four to five months later late that Fall it returned worse than before. I was in so much pain and it was so large that I begged for an emergency gynecologist appointment so that she could pop and drain it so that I could go to work. She did and it was the worst and most excruciating pain of my life. So much so that I vowed to let it run its course the next time no matter what! Every month after that when I feel the beginnings of it I prayed that it would not get that large again. When I tried to discuss it with her, she basically was dismissive and tried to link it with herpes, and hormones.

Now here I am almost a year later and it has flared up once again premenstrually. It is the size of a grape, so large that it is hanging outside of my labia majora. Extremely sore to the touch. Again, I cannot walk or function. Last weekend it began small, as usual, and has become as large and sore as before. Since I was up all night unable to sleep I looked up some things...finding this website in the process.

I also found a LOT of information about HS and our collective symptoms sound just like it. Mine matched HS symptoms exactly. I live in Michigan, so I also found (through sheer divine guidance, I feel) a clinic in Ann Arbor: The Center for Vulvar Diseases inthe Gyn department of U of M hospital. There were two doctors listed as specialists in HS. They only give two "workshops" per year dedicated to this because so few women seem to have it (which is probably largely due to shame to come forward and misdiagnosis). The first secretatry that I got was extremely rude and not at all understanding...informing me that I had to be diagnosed with this first and basically treating me like some quack, finally telling me that these doctors do not treat patients with my sypmptoms, but that she would give me an appointment NEXT MARCH for one of their regular gynecologists there.

Well, when one has been up all night in pain, one can get quite persistent. I did. I informed her that I already have a very good gynecologist, but that I still beleive that I was misdiagnosed. I informed her that, although I have no medical training or background, I am an extremely intelligent educated woman who knows my body, my symptoms, and I have the ability to research and cross examine information enough to know when what I am experiencing (and have for more that twenty years) exactly matches the symptoms of a particular medical condition that was suggested to me by a medical professional (My dermatologist). I said all this at the point of tears, which I think must have freaked her out a little (yay for me) and she finally transferred me to the scheduler for the Doctors that I mentioned earlier.

The second woman was awesome. She was very kind and understanding. She patiently listened to me describe my experiences regarding this from my early teens until now (I am 3Cool. She also patiently listened and considered what I was saying regarding the personal research that I have done into HS and my symptoms. I finally feel like someone HEARD me! She gave me an appontment with the doctors for next Friday in Ann Arbor, MI. She told me that I was extremely "Lucky" because the doctors are only, I guess, "in town" for this condidition twice a year. She is going to send me a twenty-page survey to fill out detailing my history and symptoms, and she wants me to return that at the appointment along with the copy of my pathology reports from my GYN. I am excited and I have a good feeling about this as well. It has been very difficult dealing with brush-offs and what I know in my heart to be misdiagnoses over the past 5 years.

Ladies, I feel that this may be, finally, the help I need to end this long, long nightmare. It may be the help you need as well. I will continue to post my progress and diagnosis beginning next week after my appointment. I will also continue to read your posts. If you want to talk to me further: tlbyrd@gmail.com

I have been searching the boards and have not yet found a post that describes my situation.

So, marching through my embarrassment, I will ask my qustion and hopefully someone will be able to give me some possible answers.

On my labia minora I get bumps. They are like cysts or blood blisters. They swell until they "pop" Sometimes it is like a zit. Sometimes it is more like a cysts or blood blister (like I mentioned) and the fluid is puss and blood. When it is this way, then it doesn't "heal" right away but rather bleeds everytime I wipe.

I read someone else's post that explained it is possible to get zit-like things there. So I wonder if these are two different things (the zit like thing and the blood-blister type thing) And what the second thing could be.
Also, if I try to "pop" it before it is ready, it just gets very sore. So I have to let it swell until it pretty must pops on it's own or when I wipe.

It has been many years since I have been tested for any STDs. However I am married and to my knowledge he has been faithful and I know that I have been.

Thanks for any advice or "could be"s you have to offer.

L

Hello there

These are actually quite common and are usually related either to stress or hormonal changes. It is still best to check them specifically with your own doctor as they are a gentle indication that something is out of balance or that you need a bit of relaxation (and in RARE cases somethings a bit more serious).

Salt water douching on and around the area is the healthiest treatment since it wont interphere with the natural balance of the area and not lead onto secondary infections such as thrush. Popping them does not usually spread them but cleaning regularly through the day when you wipe with a splash of salty water will stop this possibility as well.

I've managed to reduce mine in a matter of a day or two by taking in extra estrogen (soy milk for e.g.) or progesterone as it appears related to progesterone vs estrogen levels in the body (will look into the post above about HS) and the salt douching and forcing a relaxtion session (deep breathing and loving thoughts) helps - when they are painfully large piles cream is a minor miracle. Its such a delicate area to use the gels and facewash etc I have read about above and I am surprised it does not lead to further complications when using these creams etc?

At times when my hormones are out of wack and with either masturbation or ttc activity or high stress or al of the above - they flare up - (bike riding or tights etc also could cause a flare up if the conditions are right) a bit of douching and drinking of soy and or application to soft skin on arms or thigs progesterone cream works for me and more often than not I dont see them for months at a time. Glad to see everyone here is talking about them and getting answers!
